Yes he’s back! Whenever I get stressed if a sample’s not chopping well, if the drums aren’t hitting or the synth isn’t sitting in the mix, Kwon Soon Keun reminds me that music is FUN.

The man Evan La Ruffa, hooked me up with bumpage on his bursting w/ art blog I Paint My Mind. It feels great to be on there along with everyone else he plugs!
Dylan Noble
I went to highschool with Dylan in Switzerland and was always really amazed by his drawing/painting skills. Good to know he’s doing it up in Canada. This has been a favorite since I first saw it a couple years back.
Food Tiger
I would grocery shop a lot more if I was getting my stuff from a gansta-ass place called “Food Tiger” instead of “Jewel”. Not too shabby Alabama. We found 100 green tea bags for $1 there and Erika slipped on a banana peel.
Mod Dance Party New Orleans
First day in New Orleans, while getting some records and local rap at Peaches we got tipped off about a party at a spot called Saturn Bar around the 9th ward. We really didn’t know what to expect and it turned out to be a crazy-fun, no bullshit, all vinyl “mod party” (40s-50s-60s psych/rock/funk/soul). Packed in a dive with a bunch of interesting paintings and a cool balcony, people were going nuts to the likes of The Mighty Hannibal, Mongo Santamaria, early Beatles, the Ramones and more. The DJs were snapping hard, a girl almost fell off a balcony, everyone was mad friendly and I found out where to go digging today. The Mod Party crew are holding it down, playing events around the Louisiana area. I hope to see/book them in Chicago someday soon. If you’re in New Orleans look for this party!!!
Peter Mars
Little plug for a friend of a friend. Peter Mars is an American pop artist based in Chicago. I really like his Superhero work. I hear he digs the music I’ve been making with Ruth Varella out in Brazil! Word!
Beat Thang
Blogs/forums have been sorta clowning the early press on this drum machine because of it’s name and the fact that there are “freak”, “bang” and “blang” effects built in. But the video shows it’s thorough (midi in/out, usb connectivity, 2 headphone jacks, trs out, a lithium battery, phantom power). If the pads feel right, this might be that new great portable instrument for making full tracks anywhere (if you can get past the outerspace toy look).
Chicago International Film Festival
Director Ian recently put together a summary for the Chicago International Film Festival. I got to do the music for it. Peep!
So I recently threw a really fun party at my girlfriend’s brother’s loft (Thank you Karl for the hook up, and to you + Todd for holding down the bar!). On top of having a killer DJ lineup (Vader, Marmar, Ryebread, Demchuck, me), one of the things that made it exceptional was the video mixing done by Ronen, J Pappa and their crew. Two projectors, TVs, audio feed, live video camera and a bunch of effects + weird clips…the visuals were nuts (not just mixing music videos)! I recommend peeping Ronen and J Pappa’s work, and booking them for your next jam.
