I hit up Medici on 57th on 1327 E 57th St. while doing a site visit for an upcoming gig around Hyde Park. They’re both a coffee shop and restaurant and we walked into the coffee part to grab something quick before heading to a Zulu Nation show at The House of Culture. It was cool to see that Obama eats there, but when I saw they had pizza I was really sold. I got their personal sized margarita, (thin slice, they have pan too) and even though I had eaten Pequod’s and Lou Malnati’s the day before, was real happy to be eating pizza then. It reminds me of other good bakeries or italian lunch spots that have good salty mozzarella and tangy sauce. What sets this place apart is the very garlic-y dough and basil I could actually taste on top of a very good foundation. Good stuff, next time ‘round I plan on trying their pan “garbage” pizza.
