I’d very much like your presence here. Not only is Kentaro a one-of-a-kind super-humanly talented turntable performer, but I’m planning out a set to hold it down with the rest of the talent I’ll be playing with. It’s just begun!!
I’m feelin good about music right now cause I recently won the beat making competition thrown by Vocalo.org of WBEZ for the 3rd Annual Winter HipHop Block Party.
Competition was tight with over a hundred submissions and the top three, Paradigm, Madlab and myself all had ill compositions. Here’s mine:
DJ Limbs - Vocalo Competition by DJ Limbs
Thank you Jesse Menendez for hosting the competition and sampling workshop. Thanks Chicago Urban Arts Society for hosting such an amazing weekend of ill hiphop and house.
I’m super pumped to play Beauty Bar next Friday with really talented DJs in the Chicago dance music scene. Feelin’ like the new kid given I came up on a hiphop funk soul tip, I feel the nerves to really find ill shit to hang with these dance floor killers. Here’s a sample of the styles of tunes I’ll be dropping:
Live Set from Skelectro at Stay NYC by DJ Limbs
though I might get more UK funky, bassy and juke-steppy, we’ll see how the vibe works out. Dance!
Music is the Weapon was one of the first events in Chicago I put together and still one of my favorites. The concept’s pretty simple - it’s a DJ dance party that benefits local non-profits and promotes collaboration between the featured groups. We’ve benefited local NPOs such as Connect Force, Rumble Arts, Original Change Project, CHIRP and En Masse. Since doing MITW, I’ve had the privilege of joining The People’s DJ Collective and doing similarly themed events with them such as EMPACT and Beautiful Struggle. The original flier design by Edit17 has caught a lot of eyes and many friends were asking for shirts. Well, thanks to DJ Junior at Recordbreakin’ Music they finally can. And to keep the MITW tradition going, 50% of sales go straight to an educational/art related non-profit picked by Junior in his current base, Philadelphia.
Shirts are available here:
Men:

Women:

They look dope:

To celebrate the shirt release, I put together a mix. I used to do a mix for each Music is the Weapon event featuring interviews from the non-profits and socially charged tracks. This one keeps the musical theme and features some of my favorite releases from Recordbreakin’. It’s a revolutionary, social uplifting, self-actualizing themed mix. Starts up stirring you up, asks some questions, gives some hope and ends with in introspective meditation.

Ravatron!! going down this Friday. I’ll be playing electro, dubstep, juke, baile, bmore and other heavy bass music that pretty much forces you to dance.
Stay up to date here so you know what the deal is the night of. Party!!
I got to play “Skelectro” at Stay in NYC for Halloween weekend courtesy of Cage and Aquarium Productions. Shared the bill with kick ass DJs Ratinomic, 0CO (rocking a buttload of synth hardware!!) Livewire (full Ableton Live PA!), Proper Villains and Demchuk. The party was nuts and marked the first event C&A threw as a production company out in NYC. The future is bright with more events to come! In the meantime, peep more photos taken by Shelley Anderson here. And peep my DJ set here. The rest of the night’s lineup will be up soon at C&A’s blog!
