Buzzing among the artist-activists, party kids, hiphop heads, future-beat producers, Yelp-ers and wedding goers, Victor aka DJ Limbs is an all around lover of sound. From his upbringing in Switzerland, the Philippines and the US, Limbs applies his cultural diversity to his music and is one of few who can truly string together a multitude of genres to enhance the vibe for his crowd. He can rock turntable tricks with just vinyl, two tables and a mixer, or create complex layered PAs with Serato, Ableton Live and a couple of midi controllers. His skills have brought him to DJ at notable venues in Chicago including Crimson Lounge, Citizen Bar, Red Canary, Abbey Pub, Beauty Bar, Subterranean, EvilOlive, Q4, Rodan, LoKal Lounge, Between Lounge, Myour House, Loft 3A, The Red Line Tap, The Hard Rock Hotel, The Drake, The W, Pazzo’s 311 and Millenium Park, and he has traveled to Detroit, New York and Brazil to play out. He has DJ’d for underground hiphop artists Psalm One (Rhymesayers) and Krukid (Rawkus), and his remixes have been released on the acclaimed funk and hiphop label Recordbreakin’ Music. His debut release on limited edition 7” vinyl with singer/songwriter Ruth Varella of Butter, has been described as “the epitome of trip hop…like Portishead is having sex with Gilberto Gil” (ipaintmymind.org), “that reminds us of both classic club jazz and some of the best and most timelessly crafted trip hop, but gets spacier as it goes along” (dustygroove.com). It is currently on sale at record boutiques in Chicago and around the world. Always branching out, he has also participated in programming sounds for the Xbox 360 game Saint’s Row, composing film soundtracks for Chicago’s film festivals and directing voice talent for electronic books. His Chicago nights: Music is the Weapon at Between Lounge, Soul Sauce at Risque Cafe and The Booty Caboose at the Red Line Tap have developed a following for filling niche gaps needed in the city’s nightlife.
